Can I pick the one character I like from multiple character translations? (FAQ)

When translations end up being multiple characters, many of you wonder if you can just pick the one character you happen to like, disregard the other character(s), and have it mean the same thing.

Short answer, that’s silly…  that’s like trying to take pee out of the shallow end of a swimming pool…  you just can’t…  and *ewwwwwwww*…  *hairs on neck stand up*…  *shudder*

In other words, that’s like saying you can pick just “counter” from the word “counterpart” and have it still mean “counterpart”…  absurdness, ABSURDNESS I SAY!…  *shakes fist*

When you break translations up, oftentimes the individual meanings are completely different than when put together.
