Chelsea from Oregon requested the Chinese translation for “conflict” as in “the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph”…  Thomas Paine, American writer…  Thomas who?…  yeah, how ’bout that?  I actually retained something from high school (!)…  here’s to my edumacation.  *toasting*

… both these characters have individual meanings…  but in this case, it really doesn’t make sense to dissect them, as these characters really belong as a pair.

Kinda similar to the name “Norman.”  Is there a meaning behind it?  Sure, it is of Old German origin, and means “northerner.”  But if we tried to dissect it into “nor” and “man,” it would essentially translate as “not man”…  where “nor” is a negative connective and “man” is, well, a male.  Makes zero sense, nah mean?  Same thing with the characters above.

Having said that, and for completeness sake only…  the first character essentially means “to dash out” or “to rush” and the second character can mean “to stick out” (in other words, not smooth or even).
