Courage
Dana from Canada requested the Chinese translation for “courage” as in “the secret of happiness is freedom… the secret of freedom is courage”… how profound am I?? (Okay okay, I can’t take credit… ’tis a quote by Thucydides, Ancient Greek historian and author.)

… where essentially the first character means “brave” and the second character is another one of those characters that typically get’s paired up with other characters for it to have meaning.

Also FYI, in English, we call them words. Similarly, in Chinese, we call them “characters,” not “symbols.”
