Pieta from Massachusetts requested the Chinese characters for “kung fu.”  You just reminded me of those old school kung fu flicks…  “little brother, your kung fu is quite good…  but you are no match for my crane-style kung fu…  [ insert martial art sound effects here ]”…  haha, oooooh nostalgia.

…  where the first character is one of those words that typically gets paired up with other words to make sense, but it can insinuate “work” or “job” or “task”…  and the second character means “man.”

While the two characters together are commonly used to refer to the martial art, the actual underlying meaning behind the two characters together can be defined as “accomplishments” or “skilled expertise.”
