Balance
Angela from California requested the Chinese translation for “balance” as in “a well developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your step as you walk the tightrope of life.”… can I paint a picture or what??… hooah!… (okay, okay, I didn’t come up with that line… William Arthur Ward, author, did).

… where the first character means “level” or “even” and the second character really doesn’t have a meaning by itself… it’s essentially one of those characters that typically gets paired up with other characters in context, for it to make sense… but it can mean “to weigh” or “to measure” (i.e. heng2 liang2).
