Cool Dad
Devon from Maryland requested the Chinese translation for “cool dad.” KEWL, I dig the bit ‘o creativity Devon… mad props… and I’m seeing a trend with the family theme here. lol.
… where the first character is used for it’s closeness in sound to “cool” (transliterated) rather than for it’s actual meaning (which essentially means “cruel”), and the second character means “dad.” Use of the second character twice consecutively is similar to how “ma” can also be used twice as “mama.”

means“cruel”. Wow! So what happens if you really wanted to call your dad a cruel dad instead of cool dad. Would the meaning then be gathered from the context of the conversation rather than the sound of the word?

Haha… good question, and no, not at all. If you wanted to call your dad a “cruel dad” instead of a “cool dad,” you would have to append another character in front.
… where the first two characters would then truly mean “cruel” in this context.
